Lam was born in Hong Kong in 1963. His father was a paper son, meaning that he had immigrated to the United States illegally using the identity of a deceased American child. Lam's father worked hard to provide for his family, but he was always haunted by the fear of being deported. Lam's mother was a strong and loving woman who supported her husband and children through thick and thin.

In 1973, Lam's family immigrated to the United States. They settled in San Francisco, where Lam attended school and learned English. He struggled to fit in at first, but he eventually made friends and found his place in American society.

As Lam grew older, he began to understand the sacrifices that his parents had made for him. He learned about the hardships they had faced and the challenges they had overcome. He also learned about the importance of family and the American Dream.

Paper Sons Memoir Dickson Lam is a powerful and moving story that will stay with you long after you finish reading it. It is a story about immigration, family, and the American Dream. It is a story that will make you laugh, cry, and think.
