Looking Back Moving On: The At Large
By Anne Clennon
I was first elected to the At-Large City Council seat in 2003. I had been involved in local government for several years, serving on the Planning Commission and the Board of Zoning Appeals. I ran for City Council because I wanted to make a difference in my community.

The At-Large seat is unique in that it represents the entire city. This means that I have to be responsive to the needs of all residents, regardless of their neighborhood or background. I have to be able to see the big picture and make decisions that are in the best interests of the entire city.
My experience on the City Council has been both challenging and rewarding. I have had the opportunity to work on a wide range of issues, from economic development to public safety to environmental protection. I have also had the opportunity to meet and work with some amazing people, both inside and outside of government.
One of the most rewarding aspects of my job is the opportunity to help people. I have been able to help residents with everything from potholes to zoning issues to property tax appeals. I am always happy to lend a helping hand, and I am proud of the difference I have been able to make in my community.
Of course, there have also been challenges. One of the biggest challenges is the need to balance the needs of different constituencies. I have to be able to listen to all sides of an issue and make decisions that are fair and equitable. I also have to be able to work with people who have different viewpoints and find common ground.
Another challenge is the need to stay informed about a wide range of issues. I have to be able to understand the complex issues that face our city and make decisions based on the best available information. I also have to be able to communicate my decisions to the public in a clear and concise way.
Despite the challenges, I am grateful for the opportunity to serve my community. I believe that local government is the most important level of government because it is the level of government that is closest to the people. I am committed to making a difference in my community, and I am proud to serve as the At-Large City Council Member.
